The webinar addressed the issue of producers substituting cheap ingredients and advertising them as their more expensive counterparts.  Mr. England discussed FDA’s approach to the issue, and how the government can enforce good product and truth in advertising, through misbranding charges leading to refusals and alerts for imported products, or civil and criminal proceedings against individuals perpetuating the deceptions.  He also discussed the enforcement options available to private actions and self-regulatory agencies.

Ben England commented, “Companies need to be proactively protecting their interests, by verifying that their suppliers are providing the product and quality they’re expecting.”

Webinar attendees learned more about the potential risks of importing or producing economically adulterated product, and gained tips on how to ensure the purity and quality of their products – crucial to a well-rounded import program.
