FSIS Recalls Siluriformes Imported from China, Consumers Potentially Still in Possession

Jun 21, 2022 | China, Law & Regulatory, Seafood

Earlier in June, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and Yumei Foods USA, Inc., announced a recall of over 9,000 pounds of processed Siluriformes imported from the People’s Republic of China. China is eligible to import raw Siluriformes products into the United States, however, China is ineligible to import processed or ready-to-eat Siluriformes products.

The recall involves 370g plastic packages labeled Fish Fillet with Spicy Soup and 350g plastic packages labeled Fish Fillet with Pickled Soup.  The recalled items were shipped to retailers and wholesalers across the U.S. and do not feature a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) mark of inspection or an establishment number on their packaging.

FSIS anticipates that consumers may still be in possession of these Siluriformes, and although no adverse reactions have been reported so far, encourages anyone in possession of the product to either throw it away or return it. FSIS routinely oversees recall effectiveness checks that make sure firms notify their clients of the recall and that steps are taken so that the product is no longer accessible to consumers.
